Injury Crash on East Center Street in Hopkins County

Madisonville, KY (Hopkins County) - Madisonville Police Officer Jason A. Barnes age 23 of Madisonville, KY was providing point control for a tractor-trailer that had broken down on East Center Street in the left turn lane that accesses the Pennyrile Parkway southbound. Jennifer R. Thomas age 24 of Madisonville, KY was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on East Center Street. Ms. Thomas' light was green and she proceeded eastbound. As she traveled eastbound, she did not see Officer Barnes directing traffic and struck him with her vehicle. Officer Barnes was thrown approximately 25 feet and landed in the roadway. Officer Barnes was transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries. Tpr. Lonnie Kavanaugh investigated the crash that occurred on November 15, 2006 at 5:29 a.m. Tpr. Dan Morck, the Madisonville Police Department and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
