Murder Investigation in Greenville, KY

Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) - On Friday, October 27, 2006 at approximately 11:10 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2-Madisonville received a call from Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch in reference to a stabbing. The location of the stabbing was 2060 State Route 1473.
Post 2 units responded to the scene. After further investigation, it was discovered that a domestic dispute occurred between two brothers, Michael J. Dukes age 31 of Greenville, KY and Jeffery L. Dukes age 38 of Greenville, KY. The two brothers then became involved in a physical altercation. During this altercation, Michael Dukes stabbed his brother, Jeffery Dukes, twice. Jeffery Dukes was stabbed once in the right arm and once in the upper, left chest area. Jeffery Dukes' wife transported him to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died at approximately 11:46 p.m. on October 27, 2006.
Troopers located Michael Dukes at another residence in Greenville and arrested him without incident. Michael Dukes was charged with murder and lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.
An autopsy was performed today (October 28, 2006) at the State Medical Examiner's office in Louisville. The cause of death was a stab wound to the chest. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police. Detective Jerrod Hearld is the lead investigator. He was assisted by Det. Scott Smith, Sgt. Ryan Dawson, Tpr. Craig Engler, Tpr. Timmy Jewell, Tpr. Brandon McPherson, Tpr. Lloyd Ray, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, the Greenville Police Department and the Muhlenberg County Coroner's Office.
