Fatal Crash on US 68 in Christian County

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - John L. Ransdell age 41 of Nortonville, KY was operating a 1996 Honda Accord eastbound on US 68 (Russellville Road). Kyle M. Kennedy age 28 of Guthrie, KY was operating a 2000 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer westbound on US 68. The tractor-trailer was hauling limestone. Mr. Ransdell's vehicle hydroplaned on the wet roadway and crossed into the westbound lane. The Honda Accord struck the tractor-trailer head-on. Both Mr. Ransdell and Mr. Kennedy were transported by ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Ransdell succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. Mr. Kennedy was treated and released. Both victims were wearing seatbelts. Tpr. Mark Franklin is investigating the crash that occurred on October 27, 2006 at 7:00 a.m. The Christian County Sheriff's Department, Highland Volunteer Fire Department, Christian County EMS, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, Christian County Coroner's Office and Kentucky Highway Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
