Triple Fatality Crash on KY 109 in Christian County

(Christian County) - April Gibson was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition southbound on KY 109. For unknown reasons, Ms. Gibson lost control and the vehicle exited off the left shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle then struck an embankment/culvert and became airborne. The vehicle landed on the edge of a pond, Ms. Gibson attempted to steer away from the pond causing the vehicle to overturn where it came to final rest upside down in the water. April Gibson, her daughter Jalesha Newby, and her son Jamar Newby drowned. The two other adult passengers and the two other juveniles escaped and were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Jalien Gibson and Kamare Torian are also April Gibson's children. None of the adults were wearing seatbelts and none of the juveniles were in child restraints. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner. This accident is still under investigation.
