Injury Crash on Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 10/05/2006

Hopkins County - Leslie Bennett age 78 of Graham, KY was operating a 1998 Ford Ranger eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway in the right lane (slow lane). David Folz age 34 of Hopkinsville, KY was operating a 1996 Kenworth tractor-trailer eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway traveling behind Bennett's vehicle. The tractor-trailer was hauling lawn and garden equipment. Mr. Folz did not see Bennett's vehicle in time and swerved to avoid it. However, Mr. Folz was unable to avoid the pickup truck. The tractor-trailer struck the left rear of the pickup truck causing it to overturn. The pickup truck came to rest overturned on its top in the eastbound lanes. The tractor-trailer came to rest blocking both eastbound lanes with the cab of the tractor-trailer partially overturned. Mr. Bennett and his wife, Lottie Bennett age 74, were transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. Mrs. Bennett had to be extricated from the vehicle. Mr. Folz was not injured. All subjects were wearing seatbelts. Tpr. Michael Dennis investigated the crash that occurred on October 5, 2006 at 10:20 a.m. Tpr. Craig Engler, Tpr. Nathan Knight, Graham Volunteer Fire Department and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
