Injury Crash on Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County, KY

Date of News Release: 02/13/2006

(Hopkins County) - Penny Dickson, driving a 2000 Mitsubishi, was eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway. After traveling through a curve, Ms. Dickson attempted to cross the overpass bridge at the 37 mile marker. Due to the overpass being covered in ice Ms. Dickson lost control of her vehicle and struck the bridge.

Dorris Ray Gary, driving a 1995 international tractor and trailer, was traveling eastbound behind Ms. Dickson and attempted to avoid a collision. Mr. Gary's vehicle then jackknifed and struck both sides of the overpass bridge, then Tractor & Trailer then slid into Ms. Dickson's vehicle.

The impact of the wreck caused all of the lights on Mr. Gary's T&T to go out. Just as Mr. Gary's T&T was coming to final rest, Brandon Bethel driving a 1998 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound and came upon the overpass. Due to not being able to see Mr. Gary's vehicle, Mr. Bethel struck the tractor and trailer in the driver's side of the semi tractor. Steven Res, driving a 2005 Dodge Ram truck, was directly behind Mr. Bethel and also was unable to avoid the collision and struck Mr. Bethel's vehicle in the rear, coming to final rest.

Mr. Gary, Ms. Dickson and Mr. Bethel were taken by ambulance to the regional medical center in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Steven Res and his passenger, Trevor Res, were not injured.

The accident is still under investigation.
