Fatal Crash on US 68 in Trigg County

Date of News Release: 12/05/2006

(Calloway County) - Sabrina Austin was driving a 1988 Ford and was eastbound on US 68. Ms. Austin advised that she ran off of the right side of the roadway and overcorrected causing her to lose control and strike Shelia Holland's vehicle. Shelia Holland was driving a 2004 Lincoln. Ms. Austin's vehicle then ran off of an embankment, overturned and came to final rest upside down in the ditch at which time it caught on fire.

When the first motorist arrived on scene the mother and two of the three children were out of the vehicle. Seth Hooks of Cadiz reached into the burning vehicle and removed a 4 year old male child, Hunter Braxton Wiseman, receiving burns to his hands. Mr. Hooks, along with all subjects involved in the accident, was transported to Trigg County Hospital. The four year old male child was later transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN for third degree burns over his entire body. Ms. Austin and the 2 year old male child, John Wesley Austin, received minor injuries. The three year old male child, Braydon Dakota Austin, was pronounced dead at the Trigg County ER by the Trigg County Coroner, John Vinson. Ms. Holland received minor injuries and was treated and released at Trigg County Hospital.

US 68 was closed for approximately one and a half hours. Due to the fire, it is unknown at this time if seatbelts were in use in unit one at the time of the accident. Trooper Ray Burnam was assisted by accident Reconstructionist Chris Anderson, Trigg County Sheriff's Department, Cadiz Police Department, Trigg County EMS, and Cadiz Fire Department. The investigation is continuing by Trooper Ray Burnam.
