Escaped Convict Returned to Kentucky

(PADUCAH, KY.) On September 29, 2006, Randy Ray Simmons escaped from a work detail in McCracken County. Simmons was a Class D Felon housed at the McCracken Detention Center and was working on Old Cairo Road when he fled in a stolen truck. Simmons apparently fled to Florida where he abandoned the truck he stole in Kentucky and took another vehicle in Florida.

On October 21, 2006, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Police Department arrested Simmons in the stolen Florida truck. He has been held in Cedar Rapids Detention Center since the 21st, awaiting extradition to Kentucky.

On October 31, 2006 troopers with the Kentucky State Police Aircraft Section traveled to Iowa and brought Simmons back to Paducah. He was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center charged with Escape 2nd Degree and Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $300.00 (Auto). Additional charges are pending. The investigation is continuing by Detective Jerry Jones.
