Death Investigation in Monkey's Eyebrow, KY

Monkey's Eyebrow, KY. - On Sunday, August 20th at 1101 hours, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) received a 911 call from a passing motorist on Monkey Eyebrow Road (also known as KY 1782), reporting that a male was laying unresponsive in a driveway of a residence at 1515 Monkey Eyebrow Road. Upon Troopers' arrival they discovered that the victim, Clois Randall Cooper (48) was dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene by Ballard County Coroner Robert Morrow.

Further investigation by KSP Detectives revealed that the victim was attempting to load his pickup truck with items he intended to go squirrel hunting with. While placing a loaded shotgun and other hunting gear in the passenger compartment of his vehicle, the shotgun discharged resulting in the fatal injury to the victim.

An autopsy was performed on this date (08/21/06) at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville. No foul play is suspected, however, the investigation is continuing by Detectives David Archer and John Sims. The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Ballard County EMS, Ballard County Rescue Squad, and the Ballard County Coroner's Office.
