Update to Fatal Crash on KY 121 Bypass and Arrest Information

( Mayfield, KY) On July 1, 2006 Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 1 Mayfield worked a traffic accident on the KY 121 bypass where a Mayfield man was fatally injured. The driver of Unit 1, Luis Angel Carrera Quinones, 27 years old, was cited for DUI 1st aggravating, Operating on Suspended operators license and no insurance. He was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition. On July 9, 2006 after having been discharged from the hospital Mr. Quinones was subsequently charged with 2 counts of Assault 1st degree and 1 count of Murder 1st degree. He was lodged in the Graves County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by Tpr Brad Haley and Collision Reconstructionist TFC Chris Anderson.

(Graves County, KY.) - At approximately 0615 hours on July 1st, a vehicle operated by Melissa Palmer was struck head on by a vehicle driven by Luis Quinonez. Mr. Quinonez was south bound on KY 121 Bypass when his vehicle entered the oncoming north bound lane. Ms. Palmer, north bound, was struck by Mr. Quinonez, killing her passenger Rodolfo Ibarra. Neither Ms. Palmer nor Mr. Rodolfo were wearing seat belts. Both vehicles came to final rest blocking the north bound lanes of KY121 Bypass. Alcohol is a suspected contributing factor in the crash. Operator Quinonez was cited for DUI 1st, and additional charges are pending. Crash is under investigation by Post 1 reconstructionist Tpr. 1st Class C.G. Anderson.
