Date of News Release: 06/28/2006
(CERULEAN, KY.) Investigators with the Kentucky State Police are investigating an incident involving Trigg County Sheriff Randy Clark that resulted in the death of a Trigg County man. On June 28, 2006 at 4:00 am, Trigg County dispatch received a 911 call from a residence in Cerulean reporting a domestic situation. Sheriff Randy Clark responded to the residence and as he exited his vehicle, an armed man confronted him. The man, Michael E. Sowell 37, refused to comply with Sheriff Clark's verbal commands. Sheriff Clark, who had called for back up, got back into his vehicle to retreat from the threat area and wait for additional units to arrive. As Clark attempted to make a turn to exit the property, Sowell walked into his path of travel and was struck. Trigg County Coroner John Vinson pronounced Sowell dead at the scene. An autopsy, which was conducted today at the Medical Examiners Lab in Madisonville, showed Sowell died from multiple blunt for trauma. The Trigg County Coroner, Sheriff's Office and Cadiz Police Department assisted state police at the scene. The investigation is continuing by Detective David Archer and Sgt. Brent White.
