Drug Arrest and Seizure on US Highway 45 in Graves County, KY

(Graves County, KY) - Trooper Sallin was southbound on US Hwy 45 and stopped the vehicle for driving with no headlamps at dusk. Upon approaching the vehicle, Trooper Sallin questioned Jesse L. Fitts, Jr. as to his destination. Mr. Fitts became nervous and stated he was dropping a passenger off in Mayfield, enroute to Union City, Tennessee. Consent to search was requested but the driver (Mr. Fitts) denied due to time constraints.
Shortly thereafter, Sgt. Kenny Stewart arrived and approached the vehicle on the passenger's side. During Sgt. Stewart's questioning of the passenger he noticed a quart sized plastic bag containing suspected cocaine. Mr. Fitts and passenger were detained and upon further search of the vehicle, 5 individual baggies wrapped for resale and a scale was located behind the driver's seat in a camera case. The female juvenile passenger was released to family members. Jesse L. Fitts, Jr. was lodged in the Graves County jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st, trafficking in a controlled substance 1st and no insurance.
