Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors Investigation

(Graves County, KY) - On 02-20-06, Trooper Jay Thomas was patrolling U.S. 45 and stopped a vehicle for speeding. He approached the driver and noticed loose marijuana scattered on the dash of the vehicle. The driver, Amy Strain 22 of Union City, TN, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana. Trooper Thomas requested Graves County Deputy Jeremy Prince and his K-9 Kilo respond to the scene and assist with a search of the vehicle. Kilo searched the vehicle and responded with a positive hit that there were drugs inside. Officers located liquid fire, hand warmers, and several packs of Pseudoephedrine bought from several different Paducah locations. All these items are precursors to manufacturing methamphetamine. Strain was charged with Speeding, Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors, and Possession of Marijuana. A passenger in the vehicle, Adam Gibson 21 of Union City, TN. was also arrested. He was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors, and Possession of Marijuana for the items found in the vehicle. Both Strain and Gibson were taken to the Graves County Jail. Once inside the jail, Gibson was searched and jail officials found marijuana and pseudoephedrine tablets on his person. For attempting to bring contraband into the jail, he was charged with Promoting Contraband 1st offense, a Class D Felony. The investigation is continuing by Trooper Thomas.
