Aircraft Crash Investigation in Union County, KY

Date of News Release: 07/02/2006

(Henderson, KY) - Kentucky State Police 16 Henderson responded to the scene of an aircraft accident in Union County. The single engine aircraft went down around 10:40 A.M. in a field off of KY 270 approximately 7/10 mile east of Sturgis. The passenger in the aircraft was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center for treatment and the pilot was transported via ambulance to the Union County Hospital. The names of the two victims are not being released at this point pending family notification. The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Sturgis Police Department, Sturgis Fire Department, Union County Ambulance Service, and the Union County Emergency Management Agency. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is enroute to the scene. The FAA is handling the investigation and will make the determination as to the cause of the crash.
