Trooper Involved Shooting Investigation in Marion County

(Columbia, KY) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a shooting, which occurred in Lebanon, Kentucky. At approximately 6:10 P.M. E.S.T the Lebanon Dispatch and Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia received information concerning a Wanton Endangerment incident in Boyle County, and were asked to observe for a 1998 Chevrolet, which fled the scene after shots were fired at a parked vehicle and a residence. Approximately ten minutes later, Lebanon Police Officers, a Marion County Deputy Sheriff, and a Kentucky State Trooper conducted a vehicle traffic stop on the suspect vehicle on East Main Street in Lebanon.

The vehicle's sole occupant, Fifty-seven year-old, Donnie R. Garrett of Lebanon jumped from his vehicle, armed with two handguns, and fired at the officers. Kentucky State Trooper John Adams returned fire with his issued service weapon.

Donnie Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Coroner, Dick Moraja. The investigation is continuing at this time, with an autopsy scheduled at the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Pursuant to Kentucky State Police policy, Trooper Adams will be on paid administrative duty while an internal investigation is conducted.
