Kentucky Leads Multi-Jurisdictional Initiative Promoting Highway Safety

Columbia, KY - To stress the importance of exercising caution on the roadways prior to the start of the Memorial Day holiday, The Kentucky State Police will participate in the annual multi-jurisdictional safety education and enforcement effort, "Hands Across the Border", with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Coordinated by the Governor's Highway Safety Office, Hands Across the Border is held annually to promote strict adherence to traffic laws and educate the importance of buckling up.
"The Kentucky State Police is proud to be joining more than 12,000 law enforcement agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico in conducting sobriety and safety checkpoints and other special law enforcement activities as part of this unprecedented effort to save lives.
Law enforcement agencies in Kentucky and Tennessee will conduct sobriety checkpoints in neighboring counties.

Hands Across the Border was created in 1991 by safety advocates across the Southeast to increase awareness of safety belt use and aggressive driving concerns. Participating state and local enforcement agencies sponsor education and community outreach events where motorists learn about the dangers of impaired driving and violating the speed limit as well as the importance of obeying all occupant protection laws.
