Update to the Casey County Death Investigation

(Columbia, KY) - In reference to four of the drug related deaths in Casey County (see below), the toxicology results indicated that Methadone was the common drug consumed.

Methadone is primarily used in the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence. Even though Methadone is prescribed by a physician, if taken incorrectly or along with other drugs, it can become fatal.

 

(Columbia, KY) - Around 9:07 a.m. on March 2, 2006, Kentucky State Police received a call about a possible drug overdose at the Casey County Hospital. When officers arrived at the scene, the Casey County Coroner Tommy Clark had already declared Mark Anthony Sharp deceased.

Mark Anthony Sharp was a 31 year old white male from Liberty, Kentucky. Death is believed to be related to a possible drug overdose .

This is the fourth drug overdose death investigation within the last three weeks in the Casey County area. There have been at least two other investigations where drug overdose victims survived. The type of drug used in these cases has not been determined at this time, toxicology results are pending.

The case is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Detective George Atwood, Casey County Sheriff's Department and the Casey County Coroner's Office.
