Injury Crash on I-64 in Carter County

(Ashland, KY) - The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a one vehicle injury accident which occurred on Interstate 64 near the 179 mile marker in Carter County.

The vehicle, a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria blue in color, was driven by Samuel Whitt 71 years of age of Proctorville, Ohio. It was also occupied by his wife, Judy Whitt 64 years of age. The accident occurred while the vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 64 in the right lane. The driver, Samuel Whitt fell asleep and woke when the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder / emergency lane. Mr. Whitt over steered to the left causing his vehicle to slide out of control. Mr. Whitt's vehicle slid into the median and then overturned. Carter County EMS transported both occupants to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV were they were treated for multiple injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Whitt were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor. The Accident remains under investigation by Tpr. Jim Ryland of the Kentucky State Police.
