Fatal Crash on U.S. 23 in Greenup County

(Ashland, KY) - The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on U.S. 23 in Greenup County early this morning.

The accident occurred this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m.. Unit 1 was a red Mazda MX3 driven by Sam W. Moore Jr. (20 yoa.) of Greenup, KY.. Unit 2 was a blue Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Franklin M. Keeton (36 yoa) also of Greenup, KY..

Unit 2, Franklin Keeton, was north bound on U.S. 23. Unit 1, Sam Moore, was stopped on KY 3116 at the intersection of U.S. 23. Unit 1, Sam Moore, turned south onto U.S. 23 in front of Unit 2, Franklin Keeton. Mr. Keeton applied the brakes but could not avoid contact with Mr. Moore. Unit 2 struck Unit 1 in the driver side door. Both Units came to final rest in the median of U.S. 23.

Unit 2 operator, Franklin Keeton was transported to Bellefonte Hospital by the Portsmouth EMS for multiple injuries.

The operator of Unit 1, Sam Moore was also taken to the Bellefonte Hospital. He was transported by the Greenup Co. EMS. Upon arrival, Mr. Moore's injuries were determined to be fatal and he was pronounced dead by the Medical Staff.

The investigation continues at this time by Tpr. Chris Yavorcik.
