Kentucky State Police Make An Arrest in Fayette County Pursuit

(Post 12 Frankfort) On Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 8:39 PM, Kentucky State Police arrested Jermane D. Smith of Lexington and charged him with the following:

Wanton Endangerment 1st, Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd, Criminal Mischief 1st, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, No Operators License, Trafficking Controlled Substance 1st, Cocaine and Promoting Contraband 1st. Jermane D. Smith was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Trooper Stephen Spurlock was traveling east on I-64 when he observed a Dodge pick up with no license plate driving erratically. Trooper Spurlock suspected the driver to be under the influence. He activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle refused to comply and fled south on I-75 exiting at the 115, continuing west on Newtown Pike running traffic lights. The vehicle lost control and struck a fence on Greenwood Drive. Trooper Spurlock attempted to block the vehicle in, but the vehicle backed into Trooper Spurlock's cruiser and pushed him out of the way. The pursuit then continued onto Price Road and the vehicle lost control and struck a utility pole and brick wall. The suspects escaped on foot. Investigation continuing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 Frankfort.
