Fatal Traffic Crash in Whitley County

(LONDON, KY) - On Sunday, November 04, 2006, at 0957 AM the Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle traffic crash with injury on KY 25W, Cumberland Falls Highway, 4 miles south of Corbin, in Whitley County. Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Greg Hill determined that a 2004, Toyota, Avalon passenger car, driven by James Hipp, 66, Trussville, AL was southbound on KY 25W when it crossed the centerline into the path of a 1991, Honda, Accord. The Hipp vehicle struck the Honda head-on, fatally injuring the two occupants. The names of the victims in the Honda are being withheld at the request of the family. Fatally injured in the Hipp vehicle were Frances Hipp, 66, Trussville, AL and Jean Elizabeth Libhart, 65, Florissant, MO. Injured in the Hipp vehicle was James Hipp and Neal Libhart, 65, Florissant, MO. The injured were flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN where they are listed in critical condition. Assisting Trooper Hill at the scene was KSP Trooper Scott Bunch, the Whitley County Sheriff's Office, the Whitley County Coroner, the Whitley County EMS, the Oak Grove Fire Department and the UT Lifestar air ambulance. Trooper Hill continues the investigation.
