Shooting Incident in Rockcastle County

(LONDON, KY) - On Sunday, October 29, 2006, at 01:38 AM the Kentucky State Police responded to shooting incident on Copper Creek Road, 10 miles north of Mount Vernon, in Rockcastle County KY. Upon arrival Trooper Scottie Pennington determined that Darrell Griffin, 40, of Mount Vernon, KY was investigating a disturbance outside of his residence when he encountered Danny Simpson, 50, of Crab Orchard, KY. Simpson, armed with a baseball bat, made threats toward Griffin and struck Griffin's vehicle with the bat. Griffin, armed with a handgun, fired one (1) shot which struck Simpson in the chest. Simpson, who is currently listed in critical condition, was air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY for treatment of his injury. No charges have been filed and the investigation will be presented to a Grand Jury upon completion. Trooper Pennington was assisted at the scene by Troopers Jason Vanhook and Jason Denny. Trooper Pennington continues the investigation into the incident.
