Vehicle Pursuit in Laurel & Pulaski Counties

(LONDON, KY) - On Monday, September 6, 2006, Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Reid observed a vehicle travelling on KY 80 west of London, KY at a high rate of speed. Trooper Reid attempted to stop the vehicle and a vehicle pursuit began when the driver refused to stop. Trooper Reid pursued the vehicle from Laurel County into Pulaski County where the driver was apprehended after she struck three separate vehicles. Arrested was Mary L. Smith, 49, of Hazard, KY and charged with Speeding, DUI and Fleeing or Evading Police in Laurel County. Smith was also charged in Pulaski County with a variety of traffic offenses, 3 counts of Wanton Endangerment and 3 counts of Criminal Mischief as a result of the traffic crashes. No injuries were reported. Trooper Reid was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police, Pulaski County Sheriff's Office and the Somerset Police Department.
