McCreary County Fatal Accident

Date of News Release: 05/25/2006

(LONDON, KY) - At approximately 1752 hrs last date, while traveling on US 27 near KY 92 W, KSP units Shaler Jones, U-570, and Jason Browning, U-809, rolled up on the scene of a four-vehicle accident where one vehicle was smoking heavily. While rendering assistance, Troopers Jones and Browning extinguished a small fire in one vehicle and observed three individuals laying in the roadway. KSP Units advised McCreary County 911 who dispatched emergency units to location. Troopers Jones and Browning managed to extricate the passenger of another vehicle prior to emergency units' arrival. McCreary County rescue extricated the driver of the same vehicle. As a result of the crash, two individuals received fatal injuries, those being Barbara S. Mann, 09/02/1951, and Bobby L. Mann, 07/07/1948. Five other individuals were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. Details of the accident are still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. Trooper Parrish Baker, U-284, is the investigating officer and he is continuing the investigation at this time. Assisting at scene were Troopers Jones and Browning, Sergeant Jack Riley, u-151, Whitley City Fire Department, North McCreary Fire Department, McCreary County Search and Rescue, McCreary County Community Watch, McCreary County Coroner, and McCreary County EMS.
