Traffic Stop Leads To Murder Charge And, Receiving Stolen Property Charge With Two Arrest In Laurel County

(LONDON, KY) - On Friday May 12, 2006 at approximately 09:53 A.M. Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant Tony Wilson from the Special Operations Section initiated a traffic stop on a 1999 Honda Civic for traffic violations. KVE Officer Joey Conn from the Special Operations Section as well as KVE Officer Oria Smith from post 7, London assisted Sergeant Wilson with the traffic stop. A search of the vehicle revealed suspicious items which may have been involved in a crime.

At that point, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement requested assistance from the Kentucky State Police. Kentucky State Police Detectives Don Trosper, Detective Millard Root and Lt. Curtis O'Bannon arrived at the scene a short time later. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle wasn't registered to either occupant in the vehicle. The vehicle was registered to a third party in Charlotte, NC.

Kentucky State Police Detectives contacted Charlotte North Carolina Police Department and requested their assistance in checking the residence and welfare of the registered owner of the vehicle. Upon arrival by the Charlotte Police Department, a male subject was found deceased inside the residence. Detectives with the Charlotte Police Department also advised post that the vehicle was going to be reported stolen.

The driver of the vehicle is a juvenile and is being charged by Sgt. Wilson with traffic violations as well as receiving stolen property (auto). The passenger in the vehicle was charged by Ddet. Don Trosper with receiving stolen property (auto). Charlotte Police Department is obtaining warrants for both subjects for robbery and murder.

The joint investigation is continuing by Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant Tony Wilson and Kentucky State Police Detective Don Trosper. These officers were assisted by KVE Officer Joey Conn of the Special Operations Section, KVE Officer Oria Smith from post 7, London as well as KSP Detective Millard Root and Lt. Curtis O'Bannon from Post 11, London.
