Scam Alert In Laurel County

Date of News Release: 04/26/2006

(LONDON, KY) - The Kentucky State Police London Post-11 would like to make local residents of the county and, surrounding counties aware of a scam that was brought to our attention by a concerned citizen.

The way the scam works is: you receive a check by mail and, you are asked to go to a local banking institution and, cash the check. You are also asked after cashing the check to send the cash by mail back to the sender of this scam and, you will receive a larger prize amount and, the money you have sent them will be used as processing fees.

In reality you will not receive another prize and the sender of this scam has made off with the money which you have sent them.

Attached is a letter that was received and, a check that was sent to be cashed. Anyone who receives these fraudulent documents is urged to disregard the offers and, asked to contact the Kentucky State Police in London at (606)878-6622.
