Update to Murder Arrest in Harlan County, KY

(Dayhoit, KY) On 03-20-06 at 8:43P.M., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call of an apparent shooting in the community of Dayhoit, Ky. When Post 10 units arrived, Charles Maiden age 42 of Dayhoit, Ky. was found dead in the front yard of his residence from an apparent gunshot wound. During the initial investigation, a 16 year old female was charged with the murder of Charles Maiden after she confessed to the shooting. After a lengthy investigation by Detective Tim Hensley, new evidence in the murder investigation lead to the arrest of Mark Marshall Whitaker, age 44 of Loyall, Ky. Mark Whitaker was charged with the murder of Mr. Maiden and was also charged with five counts of wanton endangerment 1st degree, due to the fact that Mr. Maidens wife and three children were present as well as the 16 year old juvenile, when Whitaker alledgedly fired multiple shots in the residence. Mark Whitaker was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center under a $350,000.00 full cash bond. Charges on the 16 year old female subject will be addressed at her next court appearance. This case is still under investigation by Detective Tim Hensley Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
