Improvised Explosive Device Found In Martin County

(Pikeville, KY) - On Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 9:23 pm EST, Post 9-Pikeville, received a call for assistance regarding a reported explosion at a residence in the Moores Trailer Park on Ky 292 in the Lovely community of Martin County.

KSP Troopers responded and found Lacy O. Fletcher, 24 of Lovely, severely injured. Fletcher was transported to the South Williamson ARH where he subsequently died from his injuries. David Jude, 27 of Lovely, and David Kazee, 29 of Beauty, were also injured.

ATF and KSP Hazardous Devices also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Preliminary investigation reveals that a pipe bomb had exploded inside the residence. At this time it is unknown as to the origin or the purpose of the Improvised Explosive Device.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Byron Hansford and the Kentucky Explosive Response Task Force.
