Death Investigation in Pike County, KY

Date of News Release: 06/09/2005

(Pikeville, KY) - On Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 12:43 pm EST, Post 9-Pikeville, received a call regarding a burnt vehicle at Alleghany of Pike County. It was reported that a burnt vehicle was located on a dirt road on top of the hill at Alleghany and inside the vehicle was human remains.

KSP Trooper David Maynard arrived at the scene at approximately 13:28 pm locating the burnt vehicle and unidentified human skeletal remains. Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts responded to the scene and then contacted Doctor Emily Craig with the State Medical Examiners office.

KSP Trooper Derek Sturgill is currently investigating a missing persons complaint in that same area. Greg Fleming, 26 years of age, has been missing since Monday, June 6, 2005.

At this time we are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. The cause of death and cause of fire have not been determined. The human remains are unidentified.
