Murder in Elkhorn City, KY, KSP Needs Assistance

(Pikeville, KY) - On Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 6:24 pm EDT, Post 9-Pikeville, received a call for assistance regarding a reported shooting at Adams Branch outside of the Elkhorn City community of Pike County. It was reported that an unknown male subject had shot Robin and Tammy Hylton.

Trooper Jason Merlo arrived at the scene at approximately 6:48 pm and advised he had located the victims. He discovered that Tammy Hylton and Robin Hylton had been shot multiple times. Robin Hylton, age 40, was transported by Elkhorn City Ambulance and then he was flown by Med Flight helicopter to Holsten Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee. Tammy Hylton was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts.

At this time the suspect has not been located. He is described as a white male between 25 - 35 years of age. He was last seen on Adams Branch riding a red ATV.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Joey Howard.
