Traffic Stop Led to Drug A Arrest

(Pikeville, KY) - At approximately 12:15 hours K9 Trooper Bo Cure and Trooper Jason Merlo did a traffic stop on a Chevy pickup traveling south on US 23. The vehicle was stopped on several traffic violations. After the completion of the stop the officers detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The operator refused consent to search then Trooper Cure's K-9 unit Gero conducted an open-air search of the exterior of the vehicle and gave a positive alert on the truck bed. A search of the vehicle was conducted and revealed approximately 50 pounds of marijuana, oxycontin and approximately $4,500.00 in cash.

Clarence Roberts was charged with trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds, trafficking a controlled substance 1st degree, and various traffic charges. He was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
