Trooper Involved Shooting in Letcher County, KY

(Pikeville, KY) - On Sunday, March 27, 2005 at 12:22 am EST, Post 13-Hazard, received a call for assistance regarding a reported domestic dispute at 13448 Hwy 588 in the Blackey community of Letcher County. It was reported that Jonathan Flynn, age 27, was allegedly intoxicated, damaging property and engaged in an argument with his father, James Flynn.

KSP Trooper Adam Hall arrived at the scene at approximately 12:49 am and advised the suspect had fired shots with a firearm. A few minutes later, Trooper James Sandlin arrived on the scene. The suspect allegedly pointed his weapon at Trooper Hall. Trooper Hall then fired upon Flynn. Jonathan Flynn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner at 2:10 am. Neither trooper was injured during the incident.

Pursuant to Kentucky State Police policy, both troopers will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Trooper Hall and Trooper Sandlin are 4 year veterans of KSP.
