Death Investigation in Pike County, KY

(Pikeville, KY) - On March 17, 2005 at 9:30 pm Kentucky State Police at Harlan received a call of a nine month old child allegedly being abducted at gunpoint in the Evarts community of Harlan County. Troopers arrived at the scene and relayed the vehicle description of the suspect to the surrounding post areas.

Troopers from the Hazard Post observed the suspects vehicle at the intersection of US 23 and KY 805 in Letcher County. The Troopers attempted to affect a traffic stop but the suspect did not comply. The Troopers then pursued the suspect vehicle into Pike County on US 23. Troopers from the Pikeville Post deployed tire deflation devices in the Robinson Creek area. The suspect vehicle traveled for approximately one more mile before leaving the roadway.

When the Troopers approached the disabled vehicle they discovered that two occupants were inside. The preliminary investigation indicates that each occupant sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Randall A King, 46 years of age from Grayson, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:00 am. Landon R. King, nine month old child from Evarts, KY, was transported to the Pikeville Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:10 am. Both will be transferred to the State Medical Examiners office for an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation by Detective Ken Crider and Detective Kevin Newsome.
