Murder Investigation in Pike County

(Pikeville, KY) - On February 22, 2005 at approximately 0134 AM Kentucky State Police Post 9 received a domestic violence call at Hylton Church Road at Shelby Gap, KY. Troopers arrived at the scene and located Roy Cantrell, 59 of Shelby Gap, fatally wounded by multiple gunshots. Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey pronounced Mr. Cantrell dead at the scene at 0415 hours. Although in the preliminary stages of investigation, the shooting appears to be the result of an argument between the victim and his wife Carolyn Cantrell.

Carolyn Cantrell, 58 of Shelby Gap, was arrested and charged with murder. She was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation by Detective Joey Howard.
