Burglary of the Cedar Trace Pharmacy, Arrest Made

Image of Cedar Trace Pharmacy(Pikeville, KY) - On February 21, 2005 at approximately 0305 hours Kentucky State Police Post 9 received a security alarm call at the Cedar Trace Pharmacy at Coal Run, KY. Troopers Bryan Layne and Brad Hamilton arrived at the scene to discover that the pharmacy had been burglarized. The Troopers found that the perpetrators had forced entry through the front door.

Trooper Wes Sandlin also responded to the scene. When he arrived in the area he observed a 1985 Chevrolet Van pulling out of a suspicious location from behind the pharmacy. Trooper Sandlin conducted a traffic stop on the van and made contact with three male subjects. After a brief investigation, Trooper Sandlin arrested all three subjects without incident. Trooper Sandlin then recovered several bottles of prescription pills including Darvocet, a quantity of cash and other stolen items from the pharmacy. Larry Blackburn (45 of Betsy Layne), Erik Bailey (20 of Betsy Layne) and Michael W. Case (44 of Harold) were arrested and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. All three suspects were charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools and Theft of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree.

"I commend these Troopers for their quick response," said Kentucky State Police Commissioner Mark L. Miller. "These actions demonstrate the commitment and dedication that citizens can expect from the Kentucky State Police any hour of the day, any day of the week."

The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Wes Sandlin.
