Arrests Made in Denver, KY for Assault 1st

Date of News Release: 01/05/2005

(Pikeville, KY) - On January 5, 2005 at 0010 hours Randolph Tharpe, James P Lemaster and Timothy Ward, along with some other friends were drinking together at the residence of David Estep on Hilton Hollow. An argument occurred between Mr. Tharpe, Mr. Lemaster and Mr. Ward. The argument escalated into a physical altercation during which Mr. Lemaster allegedly cut the Mr. Tharpe several times with a pocket knife causing serious injuries to his neck, face and arm.

Mr. Tharpe was taken to Paul B Hall Medical Center in Paintsville and later transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV.

James P Lemaster, 46 of Leander, KY, and Timothy L Ward, 36 of Flat Gap, KY, were both arrested at the scene at 4:33 am.

Mr. Lemaster was charged with Assault 1st degree and Mr. Ward was charged with Assault 4th degree. Both were lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention center in Paintsville.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Steve Bowman.
