Human Remains Found in Estill County

(Richmond, KY) - On 3-28-2005 at 8:40 A. M. a citizen walking in the Barnes Mountain area of Estill County discovered what appears to be humain remains. Detectives from the Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond responded to the scene and recovered the remains. State Forensic Anthropologist, Dr. Emily Craig , also responded to the scene and identified the partial skeletal remains as human. The remains were taken to the State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort for further analysis and the process of identification will begin. A fifteen acre area was searched for more remains. The search involved twenty people from several police and fire agencies. No further remains were found. The case remains under investigation by Detective Joie Peters. The following agencies were involved in the search:

  • Estill County Sheriff's Department
  • Irvine Police Department
  • Estill County Fire Department
  • Hargett Fire Department
  • Cob Hill Fire Department
