Criminal Investigation and Arrest in Grayson County, KY
Date of News Release: 11/18/2005
(Elizabethtown, KY) - Two Troopers from the Elizabethtown Post along with two Detectives from the Drug Task Force and a Fish and Wildlife Officer responded to the St. Clair Motel in Falls of Rough, Grayson county, Kentucky, to attempt to serve a warrant on Jamie Horton for Wanton Endangerment, Persistent Felony Offender and Fleeing/Evading Police.
Troopers knew the potential for violence existed as Mr. Horton had previously made statements that he would not return to prison. The officers surrounded the motel area and ordered Mr. Horton out of his room by calling on their p.a. system. Mr. Horton came out holding his girlfriend at gunpoint making threats to kill her if officers did not back off. Mr. Horton got into his vehicle with his girlfriend then backed his vehicle up in an aggressive manner towards the officers who were standing outside of their vehicles.
Two Troopers each fired at Mr. Horton who was still armed and trying to flee the scene. As units pursued Mr. Horton south on JY 79 at a high rate of speed, then west on US 62 into Ohio County, Mr. Horton was firing at officers from his vehicle. Troopers from the Henderson State Police Post deployed stinger spikes flattening 3 of the 4 tires on Mr. Horton's vehicle. Mr. Horton's vehicle stopped and he fled on foot into a nearby wooded area where he was apprehended a short time later.
The 2 troopers involved will be placed on mandatory administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Mr. Horton was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder (Several Counts), Wanton Endangerment (Several Counts), Persistent Felony Offender, Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing/Evading Police. He was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital. Mr. Horton's passenger, Jessica Duvall, was also apprehended and was charged with Hindering Apprehension.
