For the year of 2004, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 470 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 17,888 Citations
  • Issued 6,632 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 2,504 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 233 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 8,880 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 1,443 Crashes
  • Inspected 29,735 Vehicles
  • Assisted 3,987 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 14.909 Criminal Complaints
  • Opened 1,804 Criminal Cases
  • Made 2,004 Criminal Arrests

*There were 49 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 53 lives in the Post 2 District in 2004. In 2003, 45 lives were lost in 41 fatal crashes. The following is a breakdown by county of fatal crashes in the Post 2 District in 2004:

Caldwell 5 crashes 6 killed

Christian 12 crashes 12 killed

Crittenden 4 crashes 4 killed

Hopkins 7 crashes 7 killed

Muhlenberg 14 crashes 16 killed

Todd 4 crashes 4 killed

Webster 3 crashes 4 killed

Of the 53 people who were killed in 2004, 29 were not wearing seatbelts, 17 were wearing seatbelts, 1 was not wearing a helmet, 2 were wearing a helmet, 1 was a pedestrian, 1 was not applicable and 2 it is not known if a restraint was used.

Captain Leslie Gannon, Post 2 Commander, stated that 53 fatalities are "far too many". "We must continue to try to change public perception that these aren't just statistics, but lives that have been lost and get everyone to realize the importance of wearing restraints".
