Pursuit & Crash on US 68 Bypass Near Cadiz, KY

(HICKORY, KY.) - On 2/28/05 at 11:10 PM, Kentucky State Police 911 dispatch received a call from the Trigg County authorities requesting a trooper respond to U.S. 68 Bypass West of Cadiz to investigate a collision involving Trigg County Sheriff Randy Clark. The incident started in Hopkinsville when the Hopkinsville Police Department pursued a vehicle into Trigg County. The pursuit traveled West onto the U.S. 68 Bypass were Cadiz Officer Roger Knight deployed stop sticks in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle struck the spikes and also attempted to swerve and strike Officer Knight. The vehicle continued traveling West and then intentionally swerved onto the emergency lane where Sheriff Clark was parked, striking the rear of his police cruiser. The driver, Roberto Puma, was taken into custody and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st, DUI 2nd, Operating on a Suspended License, No Seat Belt, Speeding, Fleeing and Evading, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree. A passenger in the vehicle, William Maselli 27 of Cadiz, was taken into custody and charged with Alcohol Intoxication. The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police Detective Michelle Kent. Additonal charges are pending against Puma.
