Arrest Made in City of Benton for Theft Over $300.00

Date of News Release: 01/31/2005

(Hickory, KY) - On 01/07/05 Detective Stephen Bryan arrested a former employee of the City of Benton for Theft of city money. In November of 2004 the Benton City Attorney called Kentucky State Police requesting an investigation into the disappearance of the missing funds. The investigation revealed the money was taken on two different dates. A check for the amount of $3,455.70 was written on 02/04/04 and another check for the amount of $4,712.50 was written on 04/06/04. An audit of city funds noticed the discrepancy in August of 2004 and a forensic accountant, hired by the city found where an employee had cashed the checks and then altered the checks in an attempt to hide the missing funds.

On 01/07/05 Detective Bryan charged Jodi Holsapple, 31 of Benton and a former employee of the Benton Water and Sewer Department, with two counts of Theft Over $300 and two counts of Falsifying Business Records. Holsapple was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center and will appear in Marshall District Court on 02/02/05 at 1:30 PM for a preliminary hearing.
