KSP Investigation a Shooting in Eddyville, KY
Date of News Release: 01/26/2005
(EDDYVILLE, KY.) Detectives with the Kentucky State Police are investigating a domestic situation that resulted in the death of a Lyon County man.
On 01-25-05 at 9:48 PM, Kentucky State Police 911 Dispatch received a call from Johnny Hunter advising his son had been shot. Detectives arrived and spoke with Hunter who stated his son, 34 year-old Jerome Hunter, fired shots from a shotgun at his home. Jerome Hunter then broke into his father's home by kicking the front door in. A scuffle occurred inside the home when Johnny Hunter broke free and retreated to his car were he kept a handgun. He locked the car doors but Jerome broke the window out and pointed the shotgun at his father. Johnny Hunter fired at his son hitting him three times.
The Lyon County Coroner pronounced Jerome Hunter dead at the scene. Mr. Hunter was questioned at the scene and released after detectives advised Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Russell Johnson that physical evidence and witness statements concurred with Johnny Hunter's statement.
An autopsy will be conducted this morning at the Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville, KY.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Department, Ambulance Service and Coroner's Office assisted Kentucky State Police at the scene.
The investigation is continuing by Detectives Stephen Bryan and Janet Gabbard.
