Stolen Vehicle Recovery with Arrest in Metcalfe County, KY

(Columbia, KY) - The Kentucky State Police at the Columbia Post have recovered a stolen pickup truck and made an arrest for the theft of a pickup truck.

On Sunday, September 18, 2005 the Kentucky State Police were notified of a 2001 black Ford pickup truck that was "just stolen" from a residence approximately 7 1/2 miles west of Columbia on KY 80. The owner of the truck witnessed the theft and saw it westbound on KY 80. A Trooper from the Post was close by and started westbound on KY 80 in an attempt to catch up with the vehicle. The vehicle was located in Metcalfe County approximately 5 miles east of Edmonton after it had been involved in a one-vehicle accident. The driver fled into a wooded wetland area at the accident scene. After an approximate 2-hour search the driver was located and lodged in the Barren County Jail, after treatment of injuries from the accident. Jason L. Eckes, age 32, was charged with Receiving Stolen Property over $300 and DUI. Additional charges are pending. Other agencies assisting in the accident and search of Eckes were the Metcalfe County Sheriff's Department including their K-9 unit, Edmonton/Metcalfe Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Metcalfe Co. Transportation officer, Metcalfe County Constable and the Barren/Metcalfe E.M.S. .
