Response to Suspicious Device Near Grayson, KY

Kentucky State Police in Ashland are conducting a joint investigation with the ATF reference to a suspicious device located inside of a vehicle at a residence on KY 1496 about seven miles south of Grayson, Ky.

A male subject called Carter County 911 reference to a device located inside of his pickup truck which appeared as an explosive device. Upon arrival of KSP Troopers, state police summoned the KSP Hazardous Devices Unit in Franfort and in turn, they contacted the Lexington Hazardous Devices unit to assist. The ATF was also called to the scene. Roadways in the area were closed as a precautionary measure until authorities could determine the type of device located. Hazard Device teams and ATF deemed the device as suspicious with the characteristics of a pipe bomb; however was rendered as safe by the KSP Hazardous Devices Unit. The device was removed to the ATF crime lab for further analysis.

The investigation is still continuing in a joint effort by the ATF and KSP Hazardous Devices Unit.
