Drug Arrest and Seizure in Laurel County, KY

(LONDON, KY) - On Monday November 7,2005 at approximately 1:50 a.m. Kentucky State Police was holding a traffic check point at the intersection of KY 312 amp; KY 770 11 miles south of London in Laurel County. Assisting in the check point was the Laurel County Sheriffs Department.
During the check, a vehicle stopped at the location being operated by Randy Russell Large, age 41 of Corbin, Kentucky. Mr. Large was found to be wanted on the charge of contempt of court (bench warrant) in Laurel County. After his arrest, a search of the subject and, vehicle was conducted by Sergeant Steve Walker and, Deputies Young and, Hamblin. Approximately 20 pounds of processed marijuana, packaged in 1 pound bags were located in the vehicle along with drug paraphernalia. Hydrocodone pills and, oxycodone pills were found in Mr. Large's pocket along with $4500.00 in cash.
The money and, vehicle a 1993 Mitsubishi 300gt have been seized by the Kentucky State Police. Mr. Large was charged with DUI-drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance 1st (2 counts) trafficking in marijuana (over 5lbs.), and contempt of court.
The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky state police.
