Fire and Explosion Investigation, Trooper Hospitalized

image of Trooper Conn(Floyd County, KY) - At approximately 8:30 AM the Kentucky State Police was advised of a series of explosions that occurred in a subdivision at Ivel, Ky.

During the explosions 5 houses were destroyed and 9 people injured. Among the injured was Trooper Rick Conn. Conn was at the scene assisting his neighbors escaping the fire and explosions. Trooper Conn was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital. James Fulks, Derek Newsome, Jeannie Newsome and Alexis Newsome were taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center, Kenneth Reid, Annabelle Reid and Charles Reid were taken to Our Lady of the Way Hospital and Terry Hall to the Pikeville Medical Center.

The incident is under investigation by Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator Don Parker working in conjunction with the State Fire Marshall's Office, Pike County DES, Floyd County Emergency Management, Kentucky Emergency Management, Allen Fire Department.
