School Zone Enforcement Patrols

Date of News Release: 8/9/2004

(CAMPBELLSBURG, KY) Starting on August 11, 2004 the Kentucky State Police, Campbellsburg Post will again initiate "School Zone Enforcement Patrols." This patrol effort is in response to concerns from the general public and area school systems for the safety of children while traveling to and from school. Troopers assigned to "School Zone Enforcement Patrols" will focus enforcement efforts in and around schools and school buses in an effort to reducing the number of crashes in these areas.

Kentucky State Police Captain John Thorpe has said, "Troopers assigned to these patrols will be operating at 'Zero Tolerance' for anyone who is caught violating the law in school zones or putting the safety of those riding on school busses at risk." Troopers will also increase patrols during the time of school sponsored athletic events or when ever requested by a specific school. Troopers will be patrolling these areas in both marked and unmarked patrol cars.

Violators cited will face Double fines while the school zone lights are flashing.

Captain Thorpe has requested that anyone having concerns about a specific bus route or school zone please contact the Kentucky State Police Post-5 at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Captain Thorpe guarantees that he will have a Trooper assigned to patrol that area within 3 days of receiving the complaint.
