Earl F. Winstead Pleads Guilty

(Madisonville, KY) - On March 25, 2004 in Union County District Court, Earl F. Winstead of Madisonville, KY pled guilty to seven (7) counts of hindering prosecution first degree (a class A misdemeanor). The guilty plea concluded a six-month investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Ben Wolcott and the Madisonville Police Department.

Winstead had been accused of wiring several thousands of dollars to his fugitive son, Russell Winstead, in Costa Rica. Russell Winstead was indicted by a Hopkins County Grand Jury on July 15, 2003 for murder and robbery first degree in the Ann Branson investigation.

Terms of the plea agreement are for Earl Winstead to serve 365 days in jail probated for a period of two years with the conditions that he is to have no further financial contact, directly or indirectly, with his fugitive son.
