Hopkins County Assault Arrest

(Nortonville, KY) - On Monday, March 1, 2004 at approximately 1940 hours, the Kentucky State Police Post 2 received a call reference a fight complaint at the Nortonville City Hall.

After arriving at the scene, troopers determined that the Mayor of Nortonville, James Noel, had been assaulted by Elbert and Delbert Powell. During the city counsel meeting, the mayor did not allow the Powells to voice their complaint about a tattered American Flag.

After the meeting adjourned, the mayor still would not listen to their complaint. The Powell brothers followed the mayor outside of the city hall building and confronted him.

Delbert Powell is accused of physically detaining the mayor while Elbert Powell is accused of striking the mayor several times. The Mayor, James Noel, was transported to the Regional Medical Center and admitted for injuries sustained to his face and head.

The Powell brothers were arrested for the charges listed above and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
