4 Charged for Arson 1st

(Hickory, KY) - On 11/27/2004 at 5:30 p.m., troopers with the Kentucky State Police were called to the scene of a suspected arson fire on Scales Lane in McCracken County. The Reidland and Sharpe/Possum trot fire departments were already on scene and the house was fully engulfed.

The owner, William Cummings, suspected arson due to a motorcycle being removed from the attached garage and left in the yard before the home was set on fire. Mr. Cummings also suspected his son being involved due to prior conflicts.

On 11/28/04 during a vehicle theft investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, information obtained from the suspects during the investigation lead investigators to charge the four with the auto theft and to contact Kentucky State Police reference the Cummings burglary and arson fire. This was done due to the arson occurring in McCracken County. Trooper Trent Weaver charged the four males with multiple charges in connection with the Cummings arson fire.

The four charged and the charges are:

    • Arson 1st
    • Criminal Mischief 1st
    • Burglary 2nd
    • 2 Counts of Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 2nd
    • Wanton Endangerment 1st

  2. Michael W. Stewart JR., Age 18, Calvert City, KY
    • Arson 1st
    • Criminal Mischief 1st
    • Burglary 2nd
    • 2 Counts of Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 2nd
    • Wanton Endangerment 1st

  3. 2 Juveniles, Ages 15/16
    • Arson 1st
    • Criminal Mischief 1st
    • Burglary 2nd
    • Wanton Endangerment 1st

The investigation is continuing by Trooper Weaver and Detective Frank Gresham.
